This year the FENCE Summer Day Camps received a Summertime Kids grant from the Community Foundation of Western North Carolina. The objective of the Summertime Kids is to provide nonprofit organizations, churches or schools funding so they may offer recreational and enrichment activities for disadvantaged children who otherwise would not have special summer opportunities.
The FENCE Summer Day Camp program is based entirely on nature and science education. The camps this year include the following themed weeks; Nature and Earth week is where campers will learn all about the plants and animals that make FENCE and the southeast their home, they will also learn all about what is beyond the clouds. This week also includes a Thursday night family campfire and star viewing party.
FENCE (Friendly Environmental Nature Camp for Everyone) Camp is an all day camp that will include a mixture of all the half day camps including nature, art, astronomy, photography and survival skills.
Art Camp Week is where campers will be busy using their imaginations, different media and even things from the wild to create keepsakes.
Horse Camp is where campers will learn the basics of horse care, grooming, tacking and horse safety. They will also learn to properly mount, dismount, walk and trot. The Intermediate Horse Camp will follow the beginner Horse Camp.
New this year are two Naturalist camps; one for junior campers age 13 to 18 and a CEU credit camp for teachers.
