Characters in elections

To the Editor:
Have you ever noticed that when we have a presidential election and the votes have been tallied up you’ll find that Mickey Mouse usually wins a few votes, as does Donald Duck?
Also Clarabelle the cow and Wiley the coyote will garner a few votes.
I have heard of people who voted for their pet dog as a write-in candidate. I once made the comment I was going to vote for Spongebob Squarepants for president, but that was a joke. I really didn’t.
You might say, “Why would anyone vote for a cartoon character for president of the United States? Surely they don’t expect him to win.”
That’s what is known as a “protest vote.” However, sometimes “Goofy” wins.
You look at the mess the country is in and you think W.W.M.M.D. (What Would Mickey Mouse Do?).
Now the 2012 election is fast approaching and there’s more candidates throwing their hats in the ring than you can haul on a jumbo jet. So, who do you vote for?
Maybe “Larry the Cable Guy” will get on the bandwagon.
Go Larry!
