Landrum and other area Spartanburg County voters yesterday gave Doug Brannon a decisive victory in the race for the S.C. House seat for District 38, according to unofficial results Tuesday night.

Brannon, a Republican, had 7,470 votes (76 percent), compared to 1,890 votes (19 percent) for Democrat John Lewis and 444 votes (5 percent) for Jerry Blanton of the Constitution Party.

Area Greenville County voters chose Republican Tom Corbin over Democrat Stephen Salter for the S.C. House seat for District 17. Corbin had 8,816 votes (81 percent) to Salter’s 2,004 votes (19 percent).

In a close race for South Carolina governor, Republican Nikki Haley defeated Democrat Vincent Sheheen. As of 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, with 90 percent of precincts having reported, Haley had 52 percent of the vote to Sheheen’s 46 percent. Morgan Reeves of the Green Party had 2 percent of the vote.

For lieutenant governor, Republican Ken Ard defeated Democrat Ashley Cooper, 609,536 votes (56 percent) to 487,274 votes (44 percent).

Republican Jim DeMint easily defeated Democratic Alvin Greene for the U.S. Senate seat.&bsp; With 86 percent of the vote in, DeMint had 691,144 votes to Greene’s 293,032. Clements, the Green Party candidate, had 104,545 votes.
