Fire destroys Tempest home

A fire that broke out Monday afternoon completely destroyed a Golden Road home.
Firefighters were called to the home of Jeff Tempest, located at 1054 Golden Road in Columbus Township at 12:37 p.m. Monday.
Tryon Fire Chief Joey Davis says the house was a total loss. The fire also spread to some nearby woods.
Investigators were at the scene yesterday; firefighters were also checking the area to ensure that the woods did not rekindle.
Columbus, Tryon, Saluda, Mill Spring, Green Creek, Sunny View, Polk County Emergency Services, the Polk County Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Polk County Sheriffs Office all responded to the fire.
The fire is currently under investigation by the Polk County Sheriffs Office and the N.C. State Bureau of Investigation (SBI). Officials from the Columbus fire department, the lead firefighters on the case, were at the scene with investigators yesterday.
