When it was over, Polk County High School head coach Bruce Ollis had exactly what he wanted.

I told the team I wanted to be in first place in the conference at the end of the night, Ollis said after the Wolverines opened the Western Highlands Conference 2A season with a 43-14 victory at Madison Friday night.

Mission accomplished. PCHS, the last of the conferences unbeaten teams at 5-0, overcame a dozen penalties, two of which negated touchdowns by quarterback Andre Overholt a punt return and a long run and three turnovers en route to the win.

I like the fact that we were able to keep our composure, said Ollis. I thought the defense played well we dont want to give up a score, but they were able to tack on one late.

PCHS quarterback Andre Overholt recorded 94 yards rushing on 14 carries and threw for 131 yards and a touchdown on 6 of 12 passing with three interceptions.

But Tyler Ridings and Cody Orick put the Wolverines on the scoreboard with two rushing touchdowns apiece. Ridings opened the game with a 50-yard touchdown romp on the Wolverines first play from scrimmage and Overholts run put PCHS ahead 8-0.

Madison (3-2 overall, 0-1 conference) answered with a methodical drive capped by Brandon Hendersons 1-yard plunge and subsequent 2-point conversion, tying the game at 8-8.

From there, PCHS (5-0, 1-0) steadily pulled away, scoring 35 unanswered points. Ridings added a 7-yard run as part of a 21-point second quarter that also included the first of two touchdown runs from Orick and a 15-yard fumble return for a score by senior defensive back Ryan Thomas.
