Polk County will not have any problems filling a new committee to create a unified development ordinance (UDO) for the county.

Commissioners last week expressed their gratitude to 15 residents who applied for the newly established committee. The board decided to increase the membership from two planning board members to three and from five visioning committee members to eight because of the response. Two county commissioners, Rene McDermott and Ray Gasperson, will also serve on the board.

The committee will develop a UDO that combines all existing ordinances. The committee will also be charged with recommending updates to ordinances instituting action plans from the comprehensive plan.
