Annual Dark Corner Classic Car Show draws huge crowds to Landrum

LANDRUM—The streets of downtown Landrum came alive on Saturday, May 31, as the annual Dark Corner Classic car show showcased over 330 classic cars along N. Trade Avenue. The free event, which ran from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., attracted car enthusiasts and families alike, resulting in an estimated 3,500 visitors enjoying the event.

With a wide array of vehicles on display, the Dark Corner Classic catered to automotive fans of all types. From iconic American muscle cars and elegant European sports cars to classic sedans, coupes, convertibles, and trucks, the show was a feast for the eyes. Attendees marveled at the stunning cars while enjoying a family-friendly atmosphere that encouraged fun and camaraderie.

Tricia Taber, Marketing Director for the City of Landrum, expressed gratitude on behalf of the City and the Dark Corner Classic Car Show Committee.

“We would like to thank every individual, business, and organization that assisted with the car show,” she said. “The show exceeded our goal with 332 registered cars and trucks. The weather was beautiful, the venue was excellent, and the show was the largest ever!”

This year’s Best of Show winner was Coy McCurry, who proudly displayed his restored 1969 Dodge Charger RT. Trophies were awarded to various categories, including Top 100 and Sponsor Picks, celebrating the hard work and passion of car owners.

Participants from car clubs across the Southeast praised the show’s ideal location and welcoming environment. Additionally, local restaurants and vendors received accolades for providing attendees with a variety of delicious food and drink options throughout the day.

“The City of Landrum has worked diligently to bring events like the Dark Corner Classic Car Show to our community,” added Taber. “Landrum is such a wonderful place, and being able to share that with our citizens as well as visitors allows us to bring everyone a safe, family-friendly, and unforgettable experience. I am thankful for all of the teamwork that was involved in planning and preparation for the show.”

The city extended a special thank you to the core sponsors, including the City of Landrum, The Hare & Hound, Petty Funeral Home, State Farm Insurance-Tiffany Freel, Flatwood Customs, MarketSold Realty, Landrum Hardware, Orange Bear Motors, Keystone Self Storage, Eubanks Farm Store, Stott’s Ford, Leroy Maybry Used Cars, Geno’s Crane Service, Prince Gas, Jimmie Ross Garage and Gateway Realty Carolinas.

Creative Ink played a crucial role in crafting the show’s logo and promotional materials, and Erik Harris captured the day with his photography. DJ Garrett enhanced the lively atmosphere by providing the soundtrack to the day’s events.

The Landrum Police Department and Landrum Fire & Rescue were recognized for ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Recognition also went to the City of Landrum Streets/Maintenance Department for their hard work in beautifying North Trade Avenue for the event.

The City of Landrum expressed gratitude to the local businesses that graciously allowed parking for the event. Furthermore, heartfelt thanks were given to Flatwood Customs, Lamar & Christie Gregory, for their efforts in creating unique trophies and to the entire Dark Corner Classic Car Show committee members Danny Jones, Patty Otto, Tricia Taber, Tiffany Freel, Lamar & Christie Gregory, and Jason Ashmore for their dedication to making the event a memorable success.

Special acknowledgments also went to the Landrum United Methodist Global Church for providing complimentary hamburger and hot dog plates to attendees.
