Polk baseball, softball teams grab 10-0 wins

Both the Polk County baseball and softball teams made quick work of Mitchell on Tuesday, each team dispatching the conference foe 10-0 in five innings on the mercy rule.
Brandon Jolley pitched four nearly perfect innings for the Wolverines, allowing no earned runs, one hit and one walk to earn his 20th career win. He struck out six.
Jolley also went 1-for-2 with a double and RBI to help Polk improve to 6-2 overall and a perfect 3-0 in conference. Danny Fraga had two RBIs for Polk County, which took control of the game immediately with six runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Wolverines tacked on three more in the third and another in the fourth.
In the softball game, the Lady Wolverines waited until the second inning to grab a big lead. They scored five runs in the second and added two more in the third and fourth. Jamie Hrobak, now 5-2, did not allow a hit in three innings, and struck out six.
Polk County had seven hits in five innings at the plate, including three from Haley Champion and one each from Cassie Couch and Michaelle McKaig. Champion also had three RBIs and scored twice. McKaig scored twice and had one RBI.
The Lady Wolverines are now 7-2 overall and 3-1 in the Western Highlands Conference.
The Polk baseball team played at Landrum Thursday. Results were not available at press time. The Polk softball team faces Avery today.
