Other ordinances to rezone properties approved Tuesday

LANDRUM—On Tuesday, July 8, the Landrum City Council met for its monthly meeting, approving several ordinances and moving to repeal the Board of Architectural Review.
The Council approved a previous zoning ordinance to designate Kenneth Wallace’s property, located at 116 Cannon St., to be annexed and zoned as R-1 (Residential). It also approved new zoning ordinances to designate the properties located at 1070 S. Shamrock Ave. and 531 N. Howard Ave. to be annexed and zoned as GI (General Industrial) and C-2 (Neighborhood Commercial).
Council members also read through and approved an ordinance to suspend the Landrum Board of Architectural Review and the standards it had established, particularly sections that included architectural requirements and the overlay districts of the City of Landrum. The Council approved a resolution to establish the Technical Review Committee as an interim replacement until the comprehensive plan is updated to include new guidelines.
City Administrator Shannon Baldwin said that some of the language in the Board of Architectural Review guidelines, established in 2001, was contradictory.
“Basically, the city realized some things could be done better, so the Board of Architectural Review was repealed until the Comprehensive Plan is updated,” said Baldwin. “That will allow the city to reprogram things.”
An ordinance was also approved to establish a $200 sessional fee related to the Technical Review Committee. The current Development Fee Schedule will be updated to account for the new costs.
