LANDRUM—On Tuesday, July 1, a fire inside the Burger King in Landrum led to the building being evacuated. The blaze ignited in the kitchen before growing in size, forcing diners and employees to evacuate due to smoke and other potential dangers.
The Landrum Fire Department was dispatched to the fast food restaurant at approximately 8 p.m. on Tuesday and was able to quickly extinguish the fire.
“Currently, the cause of the fire is still under review,” said LFD Fire Chief Warren Ashmore on Wednesday. “But it seems to have started at the fryer and worked its way through the vent system, where grease had built up.”
The restaurant was closed on Wednesday as damage was assessed. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident.
