POLK COUNTY—On Tuesday, the National Weather Service issued a Heat Advisory for Polk County and the Upstate that will remain in effect until Wednesday at 8 p.m.

The advisory warns that heat index values from 105 to 108 degrees are expected, adding that the hot temperatures and high humidity could lead to heat-related illnesses.

Residents should take extra precautions while outdoors and try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening hours. If symptoms of heat exhaustion or heat stroke are noticed, immediate action should be taken. If outside, wear loose-fitting or lightweight clothing and stay hydrated. It is advised to stay in air-conditioned rooms and out of the sun.
