COLUMBUS—Hands of Hope Pregnancy Resource Center held its second annual March for Life at Stearns Park on Saturday, June 21, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. The March for Life was sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council from Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Tryon.
About 100 marchers came out to support the effort, which is scheduled for the third Saturday of each June in Columbus.
Grand Knight John Bock presented Hands of Hope Pregnancy Center Executive Director Michelle Flynn with a check from the Knights of Columbus for $3,292.70, with all funds raised from a baby bottle coin drive at Saint John the Baptist Church over the past six months.
Hands of Hope Pregnancy Resource Center provides aid to mothers dealing with unplanned pregnancies in Polk and Rutherford counties, including information on alternatives to abortion, with continued support for the first two years of a child’s life.
“It’s this that allows us to continue to serve our communities,” Flynn said. “Without the church, we can’t do what we do.”
Demonstrators walked from Stearns Park across town through the parking lot of Food Lion, then circled back to Stearns. Organizers said the event was held to help raise awareness of the charitable work that the Hands of Hope Pregnancy Resource Center does in local communities.
