COLUMBUS—Over the weekend, the Foothills Humane Society held a yard sale, inviting the community to shop for a good cause while supporting pets needing forever homes. Iron Key Brewing Company hosted the sale, creating an ideal backdrop for bargain hunting and community engagement.
The event, which ran Saturday and Sunday, showcased a wide range of donated items. Every dollar raised during the weekend will go directly toward providing food, medical care, and love for the shelter animals at Foothills Humane Society.
Additionally, art created by local elementary students from Sunny View and Polk Central elementary schools was on display. The students’ artwork, made under the guidance of art teacher Michael Darpino, represented the children’s interpretations of pets available for adoption and was also available for purchase. The yard sale also offered an array of delicious baked goods from dedicated volunteers.
Lead volunteer Jenn Rodgers said, “We’d done the yard sale two years ago, and it was very successful. We planned to do it again last year, but it was postponed until the spring because of the hurricane.”
Volunteer Coordinator Sandy Howard emphasized the shelter’s ongoing needs.
“We have many different needs at Foothills,” said Howard. “We are currently looking for volunteers and have an increasing need for fosters.”
