LANDRUM—The City of Landrum recently announced that the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System has been awarded a $3 million grant from the South Carolina Department of Health & Human Services. The grant will be used to expand and renovate the Medical Group of the Carolinas facility at 133 North Howard Avenue.

This one-time grant aims to provide critical infrastructure funds for healthcare facilities in rural and medically underserved areas and regions experiencing population growth. The Medical Group of the Carolinas has been operating at maximum capacity for the past five years, housing 15 patient rooms and four medical providers.

The expansion plan encompasses a 6,500-square-foot addition that will introduce four additional healthcare providers, nine new patient rooms, three patient exam rooms, and a telehealth room. The upgrades will also feature an enhanced nurses’ work area, an expanded waiting area, updated restrooms, and a reception area designed to improve patient experience. The facility will also offer bone density and mammogram services alongside a mobile MRI unit.

“The Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System is dedicated to enhancing the health services and quality of life for our community,” SRHS said in a press release. “The Medical Group of the Carolinas in Landrum will continue to provide doctors and staff focused on meeting the healthcare needs of our citizens, ensuring wellness and preventive care, as well as efficient diagnosis and treatment of illnesses.”

Site plans for the upcoming additions were submitted to the City of Landrum in December, adhering to all required codes and standards. Upon completion, the project’s total cost is projected to be approximately $5 million.
