WRESTLING: Wolverines thump Chase in regular-season finale

Polk County dominated its final regular-season wrestling match Wednesday, defeating Chase 71-11 in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference match in Forest City.

The Wolverines (33-5) claimed 12 of the 14 weight classes, including six by forfeit. Polk County wrestlers recorded four pins and one technical fall in their victories. The 33 dual-match wins are a new school record.

Efrain Rivera needed just 22 seconds to pin Chase’s Devan Ramsey in the 120-pound match, while Amon Villarreal scored a 15-0 technical fall over Aaron Martens at 126 pounds. Jaxtyn Virgil (138), Styler Blackwell (165) and Donte Tingling (215) also recorded pins for Polk County.

Polk County’s Cole Huntley (106), Liam Jackson (113), Conner Ahlert (144), Jacob Ed (150), Carson Bell (157), Zalen McCraw (175), and Chester Wilson (190) all won by forfeit.

The Wolverines will next compete in the Mountain Foothills 7 Conference Individual Tournament on Friday, hosted at Polk County High School.
