COLUMBUS—The NC Co-Op Extension is gearing up for a new season of 4-H classes designed to spark interest and develop essential skills among local youth. These programs cater to various ages, ensuring a fun and educational experience for all participants.
The Cloverbuds program will start on February 6. This initiative is specifically tailored for children aged 5-8, encouraging young minds to explore subjects like science and livestock through hands-on activities. Additional sessions are scheduled for March 6, April 10, and May 8, 2025, all for a fee of $10.
“Sew, Create, Shine” is a sewing class for youth aged 9-18. This eight-week course, running Mondays and Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. starting January 27, allows participants to sharpen their sewing skills while creating a new garment. The course will culminate in a fashion show on March 21. With a registration fee of $10 and limited to just eight participants, attendees must have previously taken a sewing class at Polk County 4-H.
For aspiring culinary experts, “Cook, Lead, and Learn” offers valuable lessons in kitchen safety, recipe creation, and leadership skills. Open to those aged 9-18, this class will convene on February 20, March 20, April 24, and May 22. The Teen Council invites youth aged 12-18 to engage in community service and civic activities, with meetings scheduled for February 13, March 13, April 17, and May 15.
Animal lovers will have the chance to participate in Goat Kidding 101, a hands-on class dedicated to the art of goat care and birthing. Dates for this course will be announced based on the goats’ kidding schedule.
A pop-up crochet class will take place on February 14, allowing participants aged 10-18 to learn the basics of crochet while creating a Valentine’s scrunchie for just $10.
Registration for these programs is open to all youth ages five and up, regardless of prior 4-H involvement. Parents are reminded that if their child is attending spring workshops, they must have a 4-H Online account. New or returning members can quickly create or re-enroll through the 4-H Online portal.
