Organization brightens the holidays for over 1,200 individuals
COLUMBUS—In a true display of Christmas spirit, Outreach has successfully distributed gifts to hundreds of children and senior citizens in Polk County this holiday season.
The Christmas Gift Distribution occurred on two Fridays this year, December 6 and December 13. This program aimed to ensure every child and senior could enjoy a Christmas gift while promoting creativity and education. With themes of generosity, sharing, and neighbors helping neighbors, the program has garnered praise from community members and participating families.
“The support from our community during the holidays and all year round is amazing,” said Outreach Executive Director Margot Carter. “Without the community’s help, none of this would be possible.”
Local children up to 11 years old received a $25 gift card to their store of choice, along with toys from their Christmas wish lists. Teens aged 12 to 18 received two $25 gift cards and age-appropriate gift items.
The effort was supported in part by Barry and Kay Gee, organizers of the Polk County Holiday Toy Run, who generously donated toys and $6,000 to the cause. Additionally, Champions for Wildlife, in partnership with Outreach, provided 400 “Sunshine and Smiles” art kits.
Outreach’s Christmas Gift Program for senior citizens distributed gift cards to popular stores and stockings stuffed with numerous gifts, including puzzle books, socks, throw blankets, and lotions.
“We had churches, businesses, and individuals all contributing toys and helping. Thanks to the community’s support, Outreach was able to brighten the holidays for 1,272 individuals,” Carter said.
Outreach also provided 276 Thanksgiving Meal boxes in November. These packages include essential ingredients and recipes for holiday meals, featuring turkeys, hams, and side dishes tailored to the size of participating families.
