Long-time Tryon police dispatcher passed away in July
TRYON—In a heartfelt tribute to the late Tara Atkins, her family and friends are organizing a blood drive in her memory. Tara served as a dispatcher for the Tryon Police Department until her passing in July and dedicated her life to public service, leaving a lasting impact on the community.
The blood drive will be held on December 17, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Nina Simone Plaza, located at 55 S. Trade St. in downtown Tryon. Those wishing to donate can use a sponsor code to make an appointment, with the promise of rewards and additional benefits. For every donation, The Blood Connection will contribute $10 to the Tara Atkins Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Polk County Community Foundation, supporting her legacy of kindness and support to others.
“Please join us in honoring Tara Atkins on her birthday in a way that truly reflects her spirit and generosity,” said her sister, Kristy Tipton. “Tara was deeply passionate about blood donation, giving whenever she could to help others.”
Tara’s career spanned 17 years as a dispatcher with the City of Greer before she joined the Town of Tryon. Her selflessness and compassion resonate with all who have had the privilege of knowing her.
Participants in the blood drive will receive $30 in rewards, and donations will contribute to a cause that reflects Tara’s values. Donors must be at least 16 years old and weigh over 110 lbs to participate. Parental consent is required for donors aged 16 and 17, and a photo ID is recommended.
If donating blood is not an option, the community is encouraged to contribute to the Tara Atkins Memorial Scholarship Fund at https://ddock.co/O4YA9KJ01B.
