At Cardinal Stadium on Friday night, the Clinton Red Devils (5-2, 2-0) showcased their offensive prowess against the Landrum Cardinals (5-1, 1-1), jumping out to a commanding lead in the first quarter that set the tone for the evening.
The Region 1 2A matchup kicked off with Landrum scoring on an Aiden Kelley rushing touchdown. However, the Red Devils quickly responded with a 99-yard kick return, evening the score at 7-7. Landrum then reclaimed a brief lead after kicking a field goal, making it 10-7.
Clinton rallied with impressive plays, including two rushing touchdowns, raising the score to 20-10. Continuing their momentum, Clinton converted a two-point attempt, further extending their lead to 22-10.
With under two minutes left in the quarter, Clinton connected for a 27-yard touchdown pass, bringing the score to 28-10. Although Landrum answered with a Tye Foster rushing touchdown of their own, Clinton finished the quarter with yet another passing touchdown, ending the first half at a staggering 35-16.
As the game progressed into the third quarter, Clinton maintained their dominance. After a short touchdown run, which brought the score to 41-16, the Red Devils’ defense scored on a pick-six, pushing the lead to 49-16 by the end of the quarter.
Clinton didn’t let up in the fourth, punching in another rushing touchdown, bringing the score to 56-16, before Landrum scored late in the game to set the final score at Clinton 56, Landrum 22.
Landrum will look to regain momentum as they head into their next Region matchup on the road against the Liberty Red Devils (3-3, 0-1), scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on October 25.
