Soccer: Second-half strikes carry Wolverines past Trojans

Polk County pulled away in the second half Wednesday to top Chase 2-0 in a Mountain Foothills 7 Conference boys soccer match in Forest City.
The teams were locked in a scoreless tie at the half, but the Wolverines struck twice in the final 40 minutes to improve their overall record to 8-2-2, 3-1 in conference play. Chase dropped to 3-7-2, 0-3.
Cooper Meyer and Blake Anderson scored for Polk County, with James Purtill and Will Garrison handing out assists.
Charlie Wagoner had three saves for the Wolverines, who will return home Monday to face East Rutherford in a 6:45 p.m. match. Five of Polk County’s next six matches will be at home.
