Columbus development would have massive impact

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Three cheers to Larry McDermott’s balanced look at growth and development in our area.

I am one of over 50 residents of the Holly Hill neighborhood who attended and spoke at the August 20th Columbus Board of Adjustment and Planning meeting, and we had a lot to say about the matter. I think it’s important that anyone who lives in Columbus knows what a massive impact a 53-house development would have packed into the space beside the interstate and behind the Credit Union.

Highway 108 is a busy nightmare of a highway anyway, and I can’t imagine how we will handle the extra traffic load, much less in a community with only one grocery store.

The neighborhood proposes a back exit onto Phillip Street, which will ruin the peaceful existence we live here in Holly Hill. At any given time, the streets host bikers, walkers, and, at times, a pick-up wiffle ball or soccer match.

I don’t buy the story of any builder who claims to be here only because they love our area so much. I believe they only serve to profit from tearing it all down, changing it, and pocketing the money.

Please join the battle with us at Town Meetings. Speak out for your beautiful community while it is still here to fight for.
