TRYON— St. Luke’s Hospital recently announced the winners of the 2024 Men’s Health Tune-up car show, which took place on Saturday, June 8, at Harmon Field.
This annual event gave the community a chance to gather for free health screenings, win door prizes, and enjoy a car show featuring dozens of unique vehicles. The event was made possible by the Ann Jacob Toms Fund at Polk County Community Foundation.
With six different categories, the competition was fierce as car enthusiasts voted for their favorite cars, trucks, and bikes on a sunny Saturday morning. After all the votes were tallied, six vehicles stood out among the others.
Mike O’Conner from Dana, N.C., won best car made before 1970 with his stunning 1968 Dodge Charger, and Tim Brannon won best car made after 1970 with his unique 1979 Citroen 2CV. Stanley Wilson from Lake Lure won best truck made before 1970, and Harold Morgan from Zirconia, N.C. won best truck made after 1970. Suzie Hayes from Tryon won best bike with her beautiful 1957 BMW R60.
The overall winner of the car show was Richard and Lynn Coombs from Columbus, with their 1934 Rolls-Royce 20/25, which caught the attention of everybody who attended the event. Becky Collins, a Foundation for St. Luke’s Hospital Board member, designed and crafted a special trophy for the overall winner using car parts and tools.
St. Luke’s Hospital thanked the participants and sponsors for making this year’s car show unforgettable and looks forward to hosting the event next year.
