Izzy Leppert held Polk County to three hits Friday, setting the stage for Mountain Island Charter’s 11-0 victory in the second round of the state 1A softball playoffs in Mount Holly.
Leppert, a sophomore, struck out four and walked four in six innings as the Raptors (12-6) advanced to Tuesday’s third round. The Wolverines ended their season at 9-12.
MIC pushed across one run in the first inning, then two more in the third inning on Reagan Hart’s two-run triple. With the Raptors up 4-0, Leppert’s triple sparked a four-run rally in the fifth to make it 8-0, and MIC scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.
Junie Mitchell finished 2-for-3 and Laney Littlefield 1-for-2 to pace Polk County’s offense.
