The S.C. Bach choir presents its next event on Friday, November 17, at 7:00 p.m. at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross, located at 150 Melrose Ave. in Tryon.
Joining the soloists of S.C. Bach will be members of the North Carolina Baroque Orchestra for a program of orchestra and vocal music by Johann Sebastian Bach.
Two cantatas that premiered in November 1723, celebrating the 300th anniversary of Bach’s tenure in Leipzig, will be sung with the orchestra. Additionally, the orchestra will perform Bach’s Orchestral Suite No. 1 in C major.
Also, concertmaster David Wilson will perform Bach’s famous Chaconne from the violin partita in d minor.
Soloists with the orchestra will be Kathryn Rhyne, soprano; Jessie Haarala, alto; Tyrese Byrd, tenor and Adrian Smith, bass.
The two cantatas that will be performed, O Ewigkeit, Du Donnerwort (Eternity, Thou Thunderous Word) and Es Reißet Euch Ein Schrecklich Ende (To Ruin You an End of Terror), focus on both hope and uncertainty with life and death.
The concert on November 17 is free and open to the public.
