Multi-vehicle accident on I-26 West temporarily closes both lanes of traffic Thursday

COLUMBUS—On Thursday, October 12, around 4 p.m., I-26 westbound was completely shut down after a multi-vehicle accident occurred near mile marker 66.
According to Deputy Chief Dylan Priester of the Columbus Fire Department, the wreck occurred when a vehicle rear-ended another vehicle and then collided with a third vehicle after impact.
Both lanes of traffic were closed while firefighters cleared the debris of the wreckage and checked for injuries of those involved in the accident.
Priester confirmed that two people suffered non-life threatening injuries and were left in the care of Polk County EMS personnel.
Both lanes of I-26 West were opened back up to traffic approximately an hour and a half after the accident.
Columbus Fire Department, Saluda Fire Department, Columbus Police Department, Polk County Sheriff’s Office, North Carolina Highway Patrol and Polk County EMS were all on scene.
