TIEC, Columbus Fire Department, community help FHS during water crisis

 

COLUMBUS– Last week, as most of the community was dealing with harsh rainy weather that caused flooding, road damage and destroyed crops, employees and animals at the Foothills Humane Society were faced with a crisis of their own.

According to Foothills Humane Society President Carol Parker, the well at FHS ran dry on Thursday and Friday while staff members were cleaning kennels and filling water bowls.

In an excellent show of teamwork and comradery, establishments and members of the community stepped in to save the day.

Sharon Decker, President and CEO of Tryon International Equestrian Center and board member for Foothills Humane Society, arranged for one of TIEC’s water tanks to be delivered to the shelter. Sharon’s husband, Bob Decker, personally drove the tank over and, along with the FHS staff, unloaded the tank.

Once unloaded, members of the Town of Columbus Fire Department used a tanker truck to fill the tank with water. 

Additionally, many members of the community volunteered to pick up the shelter’s dirty laundry to take home to wash and dry.

“We are so grateful for the community support,” said FHS Executive Director Kat Hamilton.” We are lucky to have so many people and businesses who care about the dogs and cats at Foothills Humane Society. Thank you to everyone.”
