Broken water line shuts down East Rutherford St.
LANDRUM-On Tuesday afternoon, at approximately 12:55 p.m., a water line was damaged on East Rutherford Street.
There was significant damage and erosion around the leak site causing the roadway to become unstable. East Rutherford St. between Lyles Ave. at Landrum First Baptist Church and Lee Ave. beside the post office in downtown Landrum is closed to all through traffic until further notice.
“Spartanburg Water and the SCDOT are currently working on repairs and detour signs are in place. The safety of our citizens is of utmost importance,” said City of Landrum Public Relations/Marketing Director Tricia Taber. “We ask that you give yourself extra time and that everyone be patient when traveling an alternate route.”
Landrum Police Department Chief Jason Coffin was on the scene and thanked the first responders.
“A big thanks to the Landrum Fire Department for the amazing job they did yesterday, selflessly standing for almost 7 hours on Hwy 14 East,” said Coffin. “True dedication to the area that they serve.”
The cause of the damage is unknown at this time, and officials at Landrum City Hall say that there are no boil water advisories in place.
