TRYON—In recent weeks, Tryon Painters & Sculptors has introduced a new leadership team and implemented some timely changes to accompany the recent renovations. Cornelia Scibetta has taken on the role of Executive Director, supported by Gallery Associate Anne Stimm, both of whom are dedicated to advancing TPS’s mission while broadening its outreach within the community.

Cornelia Scibetta’s transition from President of the Board to Executive Director marks an exciting shift for TPS. Following Anne Stimm’s tenure in the executive role, Cornelia expressed enthusiasm for her new responsibilities, highlighting the seamless transition due to her established collaboration with Anne.

“Anne already knows the ins and outs of the position; it helps that we’ve been working together for a long time,” Cornelia noted.

As Gallery Associate, Stimm plays a crucial role in engaging both new and veteran members while overseeing daily gallery operations, from welcoming visitors to facilitating artwork sales. “Our membership is growing like crazy,” Stimm shared, indicative of the gallery’s rising popularity.

Under Cornelia’s leadership, TPS is focusing on implementing its strategic vision, managing day-to-day operations, and ensuring that all activities align with the organization’s long-term goals. Cornelia maintains close communication with members through newsletters, oversees financial responsibilities, and actively participates in grant writing efforts alongside Stimm.

Stimm’s focus has been on advocating for the local artistic community and successfully applying for grants that have secured funding for vital enhancements to the gallery, including renovations funded by the Polk County Community Foundation. Her passion for promoting artistic work helps TPS connect with art enthusiasts throughout the area.

Gift Shop Manager Roseann Marconi and Gallery Manager Kam Kammerer further bolster the leadership team.

A significant milestone for TPS this year was the completion of a gallery renovation in January, spearheaded by new board president, retired architect Greg Wright. This redesign aims to craft a cleaner, more inviting space that brings artwork to the forefront. The aesthetic improvements include bold paint colors, enhanced lighting, and a newly updated exterior sign, all designed to attract and welcome visitors.

In addition to the renovation, TPS has undertaken a rebranding initiative aimed at reinforcing its identity within the community. The gallery store, formerly known as a gift shop, has been renamed to reflect its primary purpose: showcasing and selling the high-quality work of its members.

TPS continues to offer diverse programming, including TPS Tuesday Nights, where presentations extend beyond art discussions and explore a range of topics. An upcoming talk by Board Member Jeff Dale, a retired senior chief in the Coast Guard, will offer attendees insights and anecdotes from his distinguished career.

“We want to offer interesting topics that will attract diverse audiences,” Cornelia commented.

Founded in 1968, Tryon Painters & Sculptors is a non-profit visual arts organization that provides its roughly 250 members with opportunities for artistic development through gallery exhibitions, a retail sales venue, and educational programs.

Currently, TPS is showcasing “In the Moment,” one of its seven annual exhibitions, featuring the works of 95 different member artists available for viewing and purchase.

Tryon Painters & Sculptors is open Wednesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For additional information, visit tryonpaintersandsculptors.com.
