TRYON–Upstairs Artspace, Tryon’s contemporary art gallery, will host three new exhibitions, starting Saturday, March 18, with an opening reception 6-7 p.m. 

 

The exhibits will be It Figures by Cyrus Glance, The Pull of Place by Lori Heckelman, and Drawings & Paintings by Lynne Tanner and Caroline Young. Gallery viewings are free Tuesday through Saturday, from noon to 5 p.m.

 

This will be the gallery’s second cycle of simultaneous exhibits for 2023. It will begin with the reception and will end on Friday, April 28.

 

“This cycle will be especially interesting and diverse,” President Patti Trobaugh said. “Cyrus Glance is well known throughout Western North Carolina as a prolific artist with an eye for the unusual. His style and subject matter always warrant a second, third, and even more looks. He will have more than 50 works of art in this exhibition. 

 

“Lori Heckelman’s The Pull of Place will have 14 landscapes that are bold yet serene, simple yet complex, otherworldly yet familiar. I find a peaceful energy in Lori’s work. For Drawings & Paintings, we have paired the works of Lynne Tanner and Caroline Young. Lynne will have more than 20 sketches and drawings of animals. I like to see Lynne’s work as a collection so that I can compare one to another. I understand Lynne has about 75 sketchbooks of cows dating back 25 years. Caroline’s work is entirely different with bright and colorful nonrepresentational images. I find her work very mental: I get a sense of meditative joy and wonder,” Trobaugh added.

 

“I encourage everyone to spend some time at Upstairs Artspace to really absorb this new crop of artwork,” she says. “It will be enlightening.”
