The Episcopal Church of the Holy Cross will be presenting a service of choral evensong for the feast of the Transfiguration on Sunday, February 19, at 4 p.m. Scripture readings for the appearance of Christ upon a high mountain are liturgically found on the last Sunday before Lent. Evensong is basically sung evening prayer, and Holy Cross takes pleasure in presenting these services on a regular basis. The choral music is as follows:
- Introit: O Gladsome Light – Anton Arkangelsky
- Preces and Responses – Richard Ayleward
- Evening Service: Magnificat and Nunc Dimmittis in D major – Herbert Brewer
- Anthem: Christ Upon the Mountain Stands – Robert W. Lehman
All are welcome; free-will offering.
Additionally, Holy Cross Episcopal Church will be presenting a silent movie with organ accompaniment on Tuesday, February 21 at 7 p.m. The movie is “King of Kings.”
This classic 1927 movie was created by Cecil B. DeMille. The movie has an approximate run time of two hours, and it recalls the story of Jesus’ last days before his crucifixion. The organ music will be provided by Scott Foppiano from Concord, NC. Scott is a friend of the church’s organist, Brennan Szafron, and is also a noted theater organist. There will be a free-will offering at the door.
