POLK COUNTY– In 2021, North Carolina’s General Assembly passed a bill designating 2023 as “N.C. Year of the Trail” with intentions to draw attention to the state’s vast network of trails and greenways. The effort was led by the Great Trails State Coalition and Representative Hugh Blackwell of Burke County.
The Great Trails State Coalition announced the launch of the campaign, which begins on January 1 with “First Day Outdoors.” Everyone is invited to walk, run, hike, bike, paddle or ride in a state park or along one of the countless trails across North Carolina.
During all of 2023, videos and content that tell stories about the trails and the people of North Carolina will be shared by the Great Trails State Coalition.
Polk County looks to take part in ‘Year of the Trail’ by asking outdoor enthusiasts to find a trail in Polk and share their experience on social media using #pocoyearofthetrail.
Each month, polktrails.org will be releasing a newsletter featuring a local hiking hotspot to explore.
