Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Big plays, tough defense, and excellent special teams made for a special Homecoming as the Cardinals (4-3, 2-0) defeated Ninety Six Wildcats 45-31 (4-3, 1-1).

Landrum’s stellar performance started fast, with Junior Colton Link taking it 73-yards giving the Cards an early 7-0 lead. The Landrum defense would hold, and the offense would take advantage of good field, leading to a 4-yard Braden Mashtare touchdown run, making the score 14-0. Ninety Six would respond with a short touchdown run of their own, which was followed by a failed two-point conversion.

The Wildcats would score first and last in the 2nd quarter, but they would fail again on an attempted two-point play allowing the Cardinals to take a slim two-point lead into the locker room, 14-12, at halftime.

Ninety Six would take the opening drive of the 2nd half down the field to put them ahead 18-14, only for Landrum to stop them again on the two-point conversion. The Cardinals would not be dismayed, and Mashtare would catch a dart from Titus Poore to give them back the lead 21-14. A long Link run would set up Mashtare again for a 40-yard touchdown run to extend the lead to 28-14. Eli Graham would tack on a field goal to go with his six-for-six night on extra points.

A long drive would put the Wildcats within 7, but Braden Mashtare had nothing to do with a possible comeback. He would add two more touchdowns, made possible by big blocks from the Offensive line to extend the Landrum lead to 45-24. One of the touchdowns came thanks to a short field provided by a Ryan Bunleut interception of the Wildcat QB. Ninety-Six would add a touchdown late for a final of 45-31 Landrum region victory.

Landrum’s second-consecutive defeat of Ninety Six couldn’t have come at a better time as they head to travel to play Abbeville (5-2, 2-0) next Friday, October 15.
