Nights like Tuesday show that something special may be brewing around Polk County’s volleyball program.
The Wolverines more than held their own with undefeated 3A Kings Mountain, defeating the previously undefeated Mountaineers 3-2 in a non-conference clash in Kings Mountain.
Combine the effort with Polk’s solid effort last week against West Henderson and there’s little doubt the Wolverines are showing improvement early this season. Polk gets another test Wednesday as 3A Enka visits for the Wolverines’ home opener.
Polk County (3-1) claimed an 18-25, 25-21, 25-21, 12-25, 15-8 win, dropping Kings Mountain to 3-1 for the season.
Morgan Yoder had a season-high 21 kills to lead the Wolverine attack. Sophia Overholt had nine kills and 20 digs while Elena Carroll had eight kills and 18 digs.
Mia Bradley had six kills while Ada Kelley had five kills and eight digs.
Amberlyn Scruggs had 26 assists and 16 digs, with Zaelea Eller recording 19 assists and nine digs.
Ella Waldman finished with 27 digs for the Wolverines, with Elysia Smith recording five blocks and Lisa Jones recording six digs.
Wednesday’s home opener will start around 6:30 p.m. and will also be shown live on NFHS Network.
