April twirls in, green grass at her feet and blossoms in her willow basket. Vivid azaleas bursting into song—as the steady drone of bees and lawnmowers hum along country roads and as town streets. 

 

We lift our faces to the morning, grateful to be part of it all. Give us pleasure in the lily, fern, pink bud, the tulip, the tender mornings promising renewal. Another month on the calendar—Happy April, dear reader! 

 

The Saluda Winter Market continues at Saluda Center, 64 Greenville Street from 9 a.m to 12 p.m. on April 9 and 23; you’ll find produce, baked goods, crafts and much more from local vendors.

You can support SCLT with donations, volunteering, and through Amazon Smile. Contact “Trail Boss” Chuck Hearon at chearon1942@gmail.com about ideas or willingness to lead a hike, or helping clear trails. April Walk in the Woods  is on April 3 to Waters of Camp Creek, a 2-mile/2-hour walk with views of Green River. On April 17, the Walk in the Woods is to Henry’s Nature Center. This is an Easter meander over wooded terrain and a chance to see the new pavilion. Meet at Saluda Library’s parking lot at 2 p.m.  

 

The Dressing Room is planning a fundraiser fashion show on April 5, 2 to 5 p.m. at the Orchard Inn—tickets available from The Dressing Room or Orchard Inn. Proceeds from raffles and the silent auction will benefit Foothills Humane Society.

 

Saluda Living in Place (SLIP), a non-profit organization to help seniors age in place, and can help those 60+ in the greater Saluda community with home safety and more. SLIP (website www.slipnc.org) can be contacted at (828) 749-0049. SLIP will have a fall prevention program featuring a speaker from ProFitness on April 7, 10 a.m. at Saluda Fire Department.

 

Saluda’s Mountain Page Theater starts a new season with YAK (Young Acting Krew) and the Mountain Page Players with the “Saturday Night Old Tyme Radio Series” featuring episodes from “Dragnet” and “Suspense Theater” on April 8, 7 p.m. and April 9 for a 2:30 p.m. Sunday Matinee. Saluda Happenings: Good news: Ward’s Grill is reopening with all the old favorites on the menu. Saluda Moon Glass is moving from the Chicken House to the Depot courtyard with an opening planned in May. A new art gallery is opening on Main Street—stay tuned! Coming soon: The Spot, featuring tacos and margaritas, is a new venture by the Purple Onion—located in the old Whistlestop building.
