The Saluda Arts Festival is coming back this year on May 21 from 10 a.m – 4 p.m. as Saluda’s historic downtown strives to cultivate and promote its heritage in the arts; and features 85 local/regional artists. Entry deadline for artists is March 15, 2022. Saluda Community Land Trust (SCLT) is busy year-round with land  conservation, trails, projects and more: visit saludaclt.org or call 828-749-1560 to learn more. You can support SCLT with donations, volunteering, and through Amazon Smile. Contact “Trail Boss” Chuck Hearon at chearon1942@gmail.com about ideas or willingness to lead a hike, or helping clear trails. On March 12, there will be a Kudzu Control Camp at Saluda Dog Park, 199 Chestnut Street,  from 10 a.m -12 p.m. This workshop will be led by Betsy Burdett and Don Dicey, who will provide hands-on instructions on identifying/controlling kudzu. SCLT’s Walks in the Woods resume this month with a walk on March 20 at Twin Bridges to enjoy spring wildflowers by the Pacolet River. Meet at Saluda Library’s parking lot at 2 p.m. to carpool. 

 

The Women’s Club of Saluda meets at Saluda Center on March 11 at 10 a.m.

 

The Historic Saluda Committee meets  March 11, at 2 p.m. at Saluda Library. On March 12 the HSC’s Step Back in History Program Series Presents: The Legacy of Dr. Daniel Lesesne Smith with Billy Shand from 10 a.m – 11:30 a.m. at the historic Saluda Episcopal Church of the Transfiguration, 72 Charles Street. Billy Shand says, “Just above Main Street in Saluda is the enclave known as Smith Hill. Long held as the property of the Smith family and its branches, Smith Hill was once the site of the Infants and Children’s Sanitarium (ICS), a true “labor of love” that was the handiwork of Daniel Lesesne Smith (1877-1947), a true pioneer in the field of pediatric medicine. The ICS was one part of the remarkable story of Saluda’s contribution to medical history in western North Carolina, but only one part.” Contact historicsaluda@gmail.com for information.

The Saluda Winter Market is every other Saturday through March at Saluda Center, 64 Greenville Street from 9-12. 

 

Saluda Living in Place (SLIP), a non-profit organization to help seniors age in place, can help those 60+ in the greater Saluda community with home safety  and much more. SLIP (website www.slipnc.org) can be contacted at 828-490-1040.

Saluda Pop-Up Pantry is Tuesday from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Saluda Presbyterian Church, 54 Carolina Avenue (behind Saluda Library). Masks/safety precautions taken.
