Polk ranks in top 10 in North Carolina for most charitable donations
POLK COUNTY—It’s tax season and after analyzing the IRS data, SmartAsset has determined that Polk County residents ranked in the top 10 of counties in North Carolina for the most charitable contributions.
Polk County ranked 9th in the state for donating the most money in 2020.
Polk ranked behind Chatham County, Orange County, Mecklenburg County, Union County, Wake County, Durham County, Chowan County and New Hanover County. Moore County was ranked 10th in most charitable contributions, according to SmartAsset.
Polk County’s contributions as percentage of income was 1.87 percent, compared to Chatham County’s contributions as percent of income at 1.99 percent.
Polk County’s percentage of returns itemizing charitable contributions was 9.94 percent, compared to Chatham County’s 15.30 percent.
Polk County was the only county in the area to rank in the top 10 in the state for charitable contributions in the state for 2020.
SmartAsset said any contributions made during the tax year are eligible to be deducted from your taxable income with certain limitations and residents in Polk County were among those in the state donating the most money.
