This Saturday morning, beginning at 6:00 a.m., St. Luke’s Hospital Foundation is hosting Ache Around the Lake.
Executive Director Katie Malone says, “We’re working to create awareness that St. Luke’s Hospital is owned by our local community. This foundation plays a large part in keeping the hospital on its feet.”
The foundation began in 1991 and is run by twenty-four board members who are all volunteers.
Ache Around the Lake is an event that will give the community a chance to participate in four different levels of races around Lake Lanier.
The four separate races are The Trauma, 12.4 miles; The Ache, 4.97 miles; The Ouch, 2 miles and the 1 mile Kids’ Race. The children’s race is free for all kids ten years old or younger.
A Top Dog award will be given to the fastest runner with a dog, as this is a pet-friendly event as long as all pets are kept on a leash.
All proceeds from Ache Around the Lake will be going towards a 3-D mammography machine for St. Luke’s Hospital.
Malone says that it’s important that our hospital have this piece of equipment due to that fact that most women have to travel as far as Greenville or Asheville to have this level of exam. In addition, if cancer is detected, it can be treated much closer to home for someone who lives in the Foothills.
“Our sole purpose is to serve the hospital,” says Malone.
To prevent the spread of Covid-19, the booths at this event will be spread out in order to avoid large gatherings. Face masks are required prior to the race.
More information about Ache Around the Lake can be found at slhfoundation.org. Registration is online only at https://runsignup.com/Race/Info/NC/Tryon/AcheAroundtheLake8K. Parking will be at Tryon Antique Mall parking lot.
