First, you should know that I have a real talent for overlooking the obvious. So, it took me far too long to enlist the help of our local garden clubs in my efforts to supply much needed produce for our friends in need in our county.
I have remedied that situation and now owe thanks to many members of the Green Blades, the Daffy Jills and the Tryon Garden Club for their efforts in the “Victory Garden” campaign.
Now, hopefully, others are joining in the cause. I don’t have to remind you that this is serious. So many in our county have lost their jobs because of Covid-19 and are, and will continue to be, in need.
On my 5’ by 9’ balcony, I have a pot garden with eight cucumber, 10 tomato and 17 squash plants. So, kids, don’t tell me you don’t have room or can’t spare the effort. This is one of the easiest acts of kindness you will ever perform. Here’s the plan: Step 1: plant, Step 2: water. THAT’S IT!
Contact our County Extension Office to get info on sources for plants. It’s getting a little late in the season but there are still some out there. So please be the good citizens I know you are. You can take your veggies directly to Thermal Belt Outreach Ministries in Columbus or drop them at Tryon Toy Makers and Carolina Confections in downtown Tryon.
I send many thanks to all those who have sent food, cards and come by my shop to wish me well in the aftermath of my cancer surgery. I will be forever indebted. You folks are amazing!
Special thanks to whoever sent me the miniature Harry Potter music box. You know me too well. It is awesome. Please let me know who you are. Again, thanks to everyone for your boundless kindness.
