Dear Editor:
I’ve been collecting and researching the history of White Oak Mountain for many years. I will soon finish this project, but there are some loose ends. I have already consulted the obvious sources. Now, I need your help. I’m looking for information about:
- The men who worked at the fire tower
- The men who carried the Star Mail Route up and down the mountain
- The Ludlum’s and the Ludlum Tea Room
- Evidence of any gold mines on the mountain
- Brochures or menus from the Log Cabin Inn or Skyuka Hotel
- There is a surveyor’s benchmark with the name GOOSE written on it. Anybody know what that is in reference to?
If you have some information, please contact me at scspeight@windstream.net or call 828-894-6511.
Many thanks.
