Tons increase more than 5K over last decade

MILL SPRING—Polk County’s transfer station has steadily increased the amount of waste it has received over the past decade. 

The Polk County Board of Commissioners recently received its annual audit report for fiscal year 2018-2019 that contains statistical data since 2010.

The Polk County Transfer Station received 17,892 tons of waste in fiscal year ending 2010, compared to receiving 23,121 tons of waste in fiscal year ending 2019, according to the audit report. 

The most waste received over the last decade occurred in fiscal year 2018, with 23,495 tons of waste. The least amount over the last decade occurred in 2011, when 17,775 tons of waste was received at the transfer station. 

Polk County’s transfer station is located off Highway 9 in Mill Spring.
