Since then he has earned Master of Music and Doctor of Music degrees from Florida State University and won many awards and prizes, including the Guitar Foundation of America International Concert Artist Competition and the Parkening International Guitar Competition. He has studied flamenco guitar in Spain, working with accomplished flamenco musicians. Currently, he is Head of Guitar Studies at the University of Florida.

Ciulei is a world-class performer who brings “an extraordinary touch to both classical and flamenco repertoire” (Acoustic Guitar Magazine). He has appeared at the Guitar Foundation of America International Convention at Oberlin Conservatory, headlined the Eastfield Guitar Festival in Dallas, and performed live on National Public Radio. With his Maharajah Flamenco Trio, he has given performances at Furman University, Wake Forest University, and the University of Florida. A frequent participant in folk and guitar festivals, he has also appeared as soloist with the Black Sea National Philharmonic, national Romanian orchestras, and numerous American orchestras.

This TGIF program reflects Ciulei’s broad range of styles and interests. He will perform works by the French composers Erik Satie, Claude Debussy, and Django Reinhardt. Suite Española, Op. 47, by Isaac Albéniz is next on the program. His concert will conclude with three of his original compositions in the Flamenco style. Cuilei will speak informally with the audience, bringing insights to the compositions and performance.
