Polk County Animal Control to hold clinic Saturday

GREEN CREEK—Polk County Animal Control will hold a rabies clinic on Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Green Creek Volunteer Fire Department. 

The clinic will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the fire department, located at 8645 Hwy. 9 South, Columbus. 

To get your pet a 3-year vaccination, the pet owner must have proof of a current rabies vaccine. 

Equines are also welcome for rabies vaccines. DA2PP and FVRCP will also be available. 

The Foothills Humane Society will offer low cost spay/neuter vouchers as well.

All dogs, cats and ferrets must be kept current on rabies vaccinations, according to North Carolina General Statutes, and although it is not required by law, horses should be kept current on rabies vaccinations. 

Polk County also has an ordinance where pet owners could be fined $100 for not having required rabies vaccinations for dogs and cats and for not wearing vaccination tags.
