BOILING SPRINGS, S.C.—The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office is offering its free trailer identification project this Saturday.
The event will be from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Boiling Springs Middle School, located at 4801 Hwy. 9, Inman, S.C.
The program is for Spartanburg County residents who have a trailer. South Carolina does not require tags for trailers so if they are stolen it is difficult for officers to identify them.
The Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office said that two years prior to starting the identification program, 281 trailers were stolen in the county. That number decreased to 265 the next year, then to 142 trailers stolen in 2016 and 119 trailers stolen in 2017.
The sheriff’s office has also successfully recovered two trailers as a result of the owners taking advantage of the identification program.
Anderson and Charleston counties in South Carolina also offer the program, with the sheriff’s office saying several other counties have inquired about setting up their own program.
Sheriff’s office officials said statewide, over 1,000 trailers have been stamped through the programs.
The program was made possible through a National Insurance Crime Bureau donation and support.
The sheriff’s office thanked the NICB for its continued support of this invaluable crime deterrent as well as Spartanburg County School District 2 for the use of their campus.
