At the June 7 meeting of the Rotary Club of Tryon, a program on the history of the Lanier Library Association was presented by Library Director Amber Keeran. Lanier Library was founded in 1889, and is named for Sidney Lanier, a musician, poet and author. Although Lanier lived in Georgia, he visited the local area and died near Lynn in 1881. The first books in the Lanier Library collection were donated by his widow. The Lanier Library is a community library association, and one of only 16 solely membership libraries left in the country. Keeran, who is pictured, was introduced by Club President Ken Shull. (Submitted by Bill Hillhouse)
