This month, Tryon Riding & Hunt Club and Tryon Fine Arts Center will host “WEG Talks.”

This free and open-to-the-public conversation about the disciplines featured in the upcoming 2018 World Equestrian Games will be held twice, on Thursday, May 24, from 10 a.m. to noon and Sunday, June 3, from 3 to 5 p.m. Both sessions will be held at Tryon Fine Arts Center, 34 Melrose Ave., Tryon.

The talks will be led by Margaret Freeman, an award-winning equestrian journalist, senior U.S. Equestrian Federation dressage judge and TR&HC officer.

Freeman had covered the equestrian events at seven Olympic Games for the Associated Press, and will share her understanding of world-class equestrian competition with the community.

These sessions will aim to educate local residents about the eight disciplines that make up the 2018 FEI WEG – dressage, driving, endurance, eventing, jumping, para-equestrian dressage, reining and vaulting.

Through a multimedia presentation, Freeman will provide an overview of each discipline; describe the rules and regulations of each; describe how each is scored; explain the type of horses and equipment used; and share the individuals and countries that are favored at September’s competition.

Local residents of all ages and experience levels — from avid riders to enthusiastic spectators — are invited to attend.

Light refreshments will be provided at both sessions.
