Highway plans should do more to protect bikers

On Tuesday, April 24, North Carolina Department of Transportation had a presentation to show us their proposal for North Carolina Highway 108 road improvements.
The typical section showed a two-lane road, with a 4-foot wide paved shoulder. The shoulder did have a bike shown.
I suggest that the biker be moved off the shoulder/roadway to outside the guardrail for protection. The new paved area should be wide enough to allow two way bike, hiker and jogger traffic.
I do not think we want our young families biking on the edge of the high speed road.
