LANDRUM — Landrum now has a rail car museum board.
During the regular council meeting Tuesday night, Landrum City Council members approved an interim board to plan for the rail car museum.
Members of the interim board will be Jo Quatannens, city council member Billy Inman, Landrum resident Judy Henderson, Andrew M. Jordan and Carol Browning.
In addition to being a member of the Landrum Architectural Review Board, Quatannens is a former employee of History Associates, a historical services consulting company, and for the U.S. Senate Historical Office. Though Henderson is fairly new to the area, she served as a volunteer docent at Ford’s Theater historical site and museum in Washington.
Jordan is the local history assistant for the Spartanburg County Public Libraries. Browning is an officer and organizer of Our Carolina Foothills, and volunteers and serves on the boards of many other area organizations.
The council discussed how many members the interim board should have, and decided, if necessary, they could add more in the future. The interim board will be responsible for details of getting the museum started, such as raising funds, adopting a mission statement and planning its layout.
The interim board will serve two years, or until the museum is open to the public. At that time, the city council will appoint a permanent museum board.
In addition to approving the new board, city council approved the balance of funds for the Hayrack drainage project not to exceed a total of $23,500. They also approved the minutes for the March city council meeting and the March financial statement.
The council also allocated $3,000 for the annual Landrum Rescue Squad barbecue on Saturday.
