TLT has announced the cast for the upcoming production of “Frozen, Jr.”

TRYON—Disney’s “Frozen Jr.” is this year’s Tryon Summer Youth Theater production, playing at the Tryon Fine Arts Center, July 17 – 20.  The show is an adaptation of the Broadway musical, designed for a younger cast but keeping the story and those wonderful songs intact. “Frozen, Jr.” includes all the songs from the movie, and five new songs written for the stage. The music and lyrics for this show are by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, and the book was written by Jennifer Lee. 

The storyline follows Elsa and Anna, whose kingdom of Arendelle is plunged into perpetual winter when Elsa accidentally releases her ice powers. The sisters’ relationship is strong. It shows the powerful love between siblings and the tight family bond. These women are capable and caring and suggest that young girls don’t have to be rescued by a handsome prince to accomplish their goals. Their love for each other transcends romantic love.

Tryon Summer Youth Theater has been running shows since 1970. The productions highlight the talents of youngsters in the area, and many actors return year after year. When they age out, many go on to act in Tryon Little Theater’s adult shows. Many of the kids have won scholarships to study theater, music, voice, lighting, sound, and costuming. It’s something this area is so proud of, and it’s something that garners immense support from the community.

“Frozen, Jr.”  is directed by Jennifer O’Rear, with musical direction from Pam McNeil. Local musicians will perform live backstage, making this a true theater experience.
