Wolverine baseball squad set for Saturday pancake breakfast

A 5-1 start heading into Friday’s game at Madison has created a bit of buzz this spring around Polk County’s baseball team — and generated some community support as well.
When the Wolverines hold their annual pancake breakfast fundraiser on Saturday, set for 7-10 a.m. at Mountain View BBQ, the team will do so with more than $3,600 already generated for the event.
“The support from the community, buying tickets or not buying tickets and making a donation, has been incredible,” said Polk County head coach Billy Alm. “Food Lion and IGA and other businesses have let us stand outside and sell to their customers. Sav-Mor Foods has donated pancake mix and syrup and all the food things we need and Mountain View BBQ is donating the cooks and drinks.
“I want to thank everybody for the support we’ve gotten. We couldn’t do this without them.”
Funds raised this year will go to the first step of a project high on Alm’s list.
“We’re in the process of covering our batting cage. That’s phase one,” Alm said. “The final phase will be to fully enclose it.”
Tickets will be available Saturday at the door.
