Sign up for severe weather alerts

LANDRUM – Landrum residents can now receive emergency notices for severe weather or an imminent disaster by phone, email or text. However, they have to sign up.
This program, sponsored by the South Carolina Emergency Management Division (SCEMD), is called the “Code Red Community Notification Enrollment Page” (CNE). Those who sign up will receive a notice when a major disaster is imminent or has just occurred, or when general or weather related messages are sent out.
Residents can include unlisted numbers and mobile numbers. The system also gives options for Teletypewriting (TDD/TTY) devices to be included.
The system will use a “Code Red Weather Warning” to alert those who are registered if they are in the path of severe weather. Notifications will be sent out moments after a severe thunderstorm warning, tornado warning, or flash flood warning has been issued by the National Weather Services. Only citizens in the immediate impact area will be alerted.
The Code Red Weather Warning will use the number, 1-800-566-9780, which can be called back for more information.
Those wishing to register must provide first and last name, street address (physical address, no P.O. boxes), city, state, zip code, and primary phone number. Additional phone numbers can be entered as well. SCEMD guarantees that citizens’ contact information will remain private and will only be used for severe weather or emergency alerts.
SCEMD encourages all businesses to register, as well as individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, have changed their phone number or address within the past year, and those who use a cellular phone or VoIP phone as their primary number.
